Tear Down This Wall

I’m pinned to my bed by a nail through my stomach, no control of my arms or my legs or my hands, just sitting there, watching my door, waiting for it all to end. My windows to the outside world, my eyes and ears, are the only things letting me know I’m still alive. How I wish I wasn’t. With a laugh, someone opens my door. Ronald Reagan. Again. All he ever does is talk at me–and leave the fucking door wide open. He points at me, asking me questions which make no sense, telling me to tear down the wall, because he was the one who paid for the microphones, or something or other. His voice is enough to make me feel like I’m going insane. He takes my remote from off the bedside table.  This hasn’t happened before. I still can’t do anything about it.  He pushes the power button and one of his movies comes on, the one with the monkey. It’s playing at twelve times the speed and is over in about a minute before playing again. Reagan’s voice becomes white noise at this point, a long, ...

May 3rd of 2021 was the first time I released anything real into the wild. Before that, it was just shitty SoundCloud demos that I would spend all afternoon making before realizing they were garbage–then releasing them anyways. I would argue that day is one of the most important days of my life, right up there with February 3rd 2006 and September 9th 2022. I don’t know what I’d be doing without music, and the DAVE projects and others have taken up such a large part of my life that I can’t even begin to imagine where I’d be without them, or the other bands I take part in. But now DAVE is coming to a close, the pentology complete. I will still make music, obviously, but for at least the next four years, I don’t think there will be any more DAVE coming from me I would like to take the time to go through every single person I know who has made a large impact on me and my music, as a way to say thanks, I suppose. Obviously, there is no way I could ever repay ...

The Story of DAVE 2

This one took a while. Excuses for this are plentiful, at least in my head–the regular ‘creative burnout’ and ‘anxiety’ and ‘stress’ bullshit–but who even cares? I didn’t have as many ideas for this one, hence the eight tracks (real DAVE ones, anyway) instead of nine, and I think it’s because I’ve been making DAVE stuff as my primary project for four years at this point, and because daVe was probably my best album and it’s hard to follow up. However, I tried my best, and I have a lot to say about each song. Probably–I haven’t written those parts yet. 2006 Honda Civic Probably my favorite electronic track I’ve ever made, right next to (and made around a similar time) as Heartbeat of the Trees. The title is taken from the SpongeBob AI series, the one where Patrick says “2006 Honda Civic.” A lot of effort goes into naming these songs, I’ll have you know.  It was my attempt at making a jungle type DnB track, but since I don’t have the technical know-how to do something like that, I jus...

Caught Between Worlds

PREFACE: This is a long-ass piece I wrote over the course of like a year I believe. I think it's good, but I will be adding more in the future. Caught Between Worlds Special thanks to Charlie, Infinity Frequencies and Beny Tchaicovsky “She Vinge on my Riley till I’m caught between worlds” The sky was a sheet of complete black that covered the city, with all the light from the stars stolen by the fluorescent bulbs of the countless high-rises. Shuttered and desolate were the stands that littered the streets, locked in a perpetual stasis, sitting outside shops which had not been opened in years and some which had never been open. There were no voices in the air, and the only signs of life were mere hints of human presence: echoing footsteps in the distance belonging to unknown people, a light on in an apartment building showcasing a blurry silhouette, the occasional sound of a door slamming shut. Above a derelict bar someone was watching the news on an old television, ...
