Como Backdoor Interviews (TRANSCRIPTS)

Image
A collection of interviews taken at the Como Backdoor on October 11th, 2024.  Audio version: Interview Transcripts: I Have No Love For Men Like You:   First I had to choke back the tears nearly induced by their last song, before asking them if they’d like to be interviewed for a magazine. After ten minutes of trying to figure out where Robert, one of the guitar players, had gone, the interview finally took place.  J: What is your name? R: My name is Robert and I’m in I Have No Love For Men Like You. I: My name is Isaac and I am also in that band. J: When did you guys form? R: We formed December of last year, but we really started practicing in about February. J: Who plays what in the band? R: I play electric guitar. I: I play the bass guitar, Jackson plays the drums, and Dylan sings and also plays the electric guitar. J: What is your guys’ favorite song that you have written? R: Oh, Jesus, probably the song, it’s, uh, Street Fighter. I: (Long um), probably our most...

Hello! Welcome to this blog. I'm just gonna post random shit on here because I don't have enough outlets for that, apparently. Asphalt

You take the coffee from the machine, fingertips on the verge of melting from the heat emanating around the outside of the cup. No lids, no cardboard sleeves; you are holding the coffee in your bare hands making extra sure not to spill it like last time. From the entry point of the brownish-black liquid you feel a line of flame, stretching all the way down into your stomach. The coffee is good, you think to yourself, the only good thing left. You walk back to your car. You feel like you could drive all night.  With nothing but that cup and a Snickers to keep you going, weary eyes straining from how long you’ve been awake, you start your Corolla and get on the road again. Road is a bit of a nebulous word for you; it’s all road, really. You can’t see the farms off to either side of you, and not because of the darkness, but because they’re not there anymore. Every scrap of flat land got turned into a big parking lot at some point in your life. The thing is, you don’t even remember whe...

Tear Down This Wall

I’m pinned to my bed by a nail through my stomach, no control of my arms or my legs or my hands, just sitting there, watching my door, waiting for it all to end. My windows to the outside world, my eyes and ears, are the only things letting me know I’m still alive. How I wish I wasn’t. With a laugh, someone opens my door. Ronald Reagan. Again. All he ever does is talk at me–and leave the fucking door wide open. He points at me, asking me questions which make no sense, telling me to tear down the wall, because he was the one who paid for the microphones, or something or other. His voice is enough to make me feel like I’m going insane. He takes my remote from off the bedside table.  This hasn’t happened before. I still can’t do anything about it.  He pushes the power button and one of his movies comes on, the one with the monkey. It’s playing at twelve times the speed and is over in about a minute before playing again. Reagan’s voice becomes white noise at this point, a long, ...

May 3rd of 2021 was the first time I released anything real into the wild. Before that, it was just shitty SoundCloud demos that I would spend all afternoon making before realizing they were garbage–then releasing them anyways. I would argue that day is one of the most important days of my life, right up there with February 3rd 2006 and September 9th 2022. I don’t know what I’d be doing without music, and the DAVE projects and others have taken up such a large part of my life that I can’t even begin to imagine where I’d be without them, or the other bands I take part in. But now DAVE is coming to a close, the pentology complete. I will still make music, obviously, but for at least the next four years, I don’t think there will be any more DAVE coming from me I would like to take the time to go through every single person I know who has made a large impact on me and my music, as a way to say thanks, I suppose. Obviously, there is no way I could ever repay ...
